Tierras Milperas
Land and Cultural Reunion:
Campesiné Land Justice
Tierras Milperas is a collective of more than 100 farmers and working-class families in California’s Pajaro Valley who depend on Land to nourish their communities, cultures, and livelihoods. As a campesiné migrant community, they steward heirloom seeds and generations of milpa farming knowledge through community gardens, practicing agro-food autonomy rooted in Indigenous and traditional ecological knowledge. Organized as an asamblea with shared governance, Tierras Milperas is advancing a collective vision of community land stewardship, cooperative land work, and dignified housing—free from exploitation and displacement.
The Center for Ethical Land Transition provides multi-year support in land acquisition strategy, fundraising, and relationship-building, alongside collaborators Minnow, People’s Land Fund, and the Community Agroecology Network. After seven years of organizing, Tierras Milperas completed its first land acquisition, closing escrow on October 31, 2025. The 21-acre site secures a working farm and two homes stewarded by the community and marks the first of many land reunions advancing a future grounded in agroecology, agroforestry, cooperative housing, and alternative economies.
